A receiver and a transmitter/receiver such as a portable telephone and a transceiver, in which power supply to a receiving section including a variable gain amplifier can be controlled with high accuracy. The receiver comprises the receiving section (3), a gain control signal generating section (21) for specifying the gain value at the variable gain amplifiers (4a, 8a) in the receiving section (3), a control section (12), and a memory (13). Power levels being supplied to the receiving section depending on the gain values are stored in the memory, and the control section controls power to be supplied to the receiving section based on a gain value specified by a gain control signal (S5) with reference to the supply power levels stored in the memory. |
