PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To more exactly reduce burden of a neck of an occupant by a compact and simple occupant protection device for the vehicle when a collision object collides with a vehicle from a rear side. SOLUTION: The occupant protection device 20 for the vehicle comprises first swing members 52, 52 longitudinally swingably mounted to a seat back frame 35 at a first swing center Q1; second swing members 80, 80 longitudinally swingably mounted to the first swing member at a second swing center Q2; a head rest support member 37 longitudinally swingably mounted to the seat back frame so as to forwardly swing it by the second swing member; a head rest 38 mounted to the head rest support member; a driving means 24 at collision prediction for swing-driving the second swing member when the collision object colliding with the vehicle from the rear side is predicted; and a driving means 53 at collision for swing-driving the second swing member through the first swing member when the collision object collides with the vehicle from the rear side.
