PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve such a problem that making a title of a recording medium is troublesome due to insufficient input environment, in equipment for recording information in a recording medium being attachable and detachable such as a digital video camera and a digital still camera. SOLUTION: In a recording and reproducing apparatus in which the recording medium can be attached and detached, when a medium being recorded is changed, a title of a medium inserted next is made from a title of the recording medium being inserted present, next, a title candidate of an inserted medium is made. A selection edition means selecting whether the candidate is selected or edition is performed based on the candidate is provided to a user, a title of the next recording medium is decided easily, and recording can be performed.
