The process involves performing a beading operation for deforming a sheet metal (30) in order to form a rib and a calibrating operation for flattening the rib to form an over-thickness zone (36) having varying length. The sheet metal undergoes a laminating operation during the beading operation in order to obtain the over-thickness zone with a solid abutment, after the calibrating operation. An independent claim is also included for a joint comprising a sheet metal.
