PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus with which electric discharging efficiency of a separating means is increased, electric discharging along the paper guide width direction of the separating means is made uniform, occurrence of insulation destruction of an image carrying body is prevented and a recording medium is properly separated from the image carrying body. SOLUTION: In a separating means 16, when a separation voltage is applied to separation needles 17 which are located toward a sheet transporting direction downstream side from a transfer roller and are arranged at a plurality of locations along the direction orthogonal to the sheet transporting direction, electric discharging occurs between a photoreceptor drum and the separating needles 17 and the sheet, that is electrified by the transfer roller, is electrically discharged and is separated from the photosensitive drum. Let W1(mm) be the size between the separation needles 17. Then, the needles are arranged so that it becomes 7≥W1≥2.4. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
