PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a metal carrying catalyst containing palladium and tellurium carried on a carrier, the catalyst making an effective use of palladium, a catalytic component, and also provide a production method of the catalyst. SOLUTION: A phenyl ester synthesizing catalyst is a metal carrying catalyst which contains palladium and tellurium carried by a carrier, wherein the specific amounts of the palladium and tellurium are carried by a surface layer part whose depth is at most 20% of a radius from the outer surface of the carrier to the center.
