<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress the degradation of image quality caused by residual toner after transfer which blocks the formation of a proper electrostatic latent image on a surface of a latent image carrier. <P>SOLUTION: Residual toner after transfer is subjected to charge injection by a toner polarity controlling device 40 before it reaches a position opposite to a charging roller, whereby the residual toner after transfer is set to a normal polarity, that is, a polarity (positive polarity) opposite to the polarity (negative polarity) of a charging bias. When the residual toner after transfer reaches a charging region, it is electrostatically attracted to the charging roller and removed from a surface of a photoreceptor drum. The residual toner after transfer is therefore removed from the surface of the photoreceptor drum before it is conveyed to a latent image forming region, and when a latent image is formed in the latent image forming region, occurrence of the problem that residual toner after transfer blocks formation of a proper latent image can be suppressed. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
