<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wide viewing angle liquid crystal display device with excellent display quality in the liquid crystal display device with at least an axisymmetric alignment domain in a pixel. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device has a vertical alignment liquid crystal layer 120 and is equipped with a first electrode 111 on a first substrate, a second electrode 131 on a second substrate, and a plurality of pixels arrayed in a matrix with rows and columns. The first substrate has a light shielding region on gaps among the plurality of pixels and regularly aligned wall structured bodies 115 on the liquid crystal side of the light shielding region. The first and second electrodes have opening parts 114 formed on specified positions in the pixels. In the construction, first pixels having the first electrodes to which a voltage with positive polarity is supplied taking an electric potential of the second electrode as the reference potential, and second pixels having the first electrodes to which a voltage with negative polarity is supplied in a certain vertical scanning period are alternately arrayed. Furthermore, the liquid crystal layer has liquid crystal domains assuming the axisymmetric alignment formed therein. Center axes of the axisymmetric alignment of the liquid crystal domains are formed in the opening parts or in the vicinity thereof. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
