<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform forming of an optimum image corresponding to the kind of the image without requiring redundant time for printing and imposing a burden to a user. <P>SOLUTION: A user designates data to be printed by a URL. When the URL is input, the structure of the URL is analyzed in step S2, and then an address of a server holding the desired data and the position of the data in the server to be obtained are determined. A HEAD command about the desired data is issued in step S3 and information of "Content-type" is extracted from format information transmitted in response to the HEAD command to be stored in a memory in step S5. When the "Content-type" is of a JPEG image in step S9, the process goes to step S10. When it is not, the process goes to step S12.
