摘要 <p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To restrict a bad influence of temperature difference between the real catalyst temperature and an estimated catalyst temperature on temperature rise control of an exhaust emission control catalyst and on emission when controlling temperature rise of the exhaust emission control catalyst. <P>SOLUTION: In this exhaust emission control device for an internal combustion engine, when estimating catalyst temperature in each part of the exhaust emission control catalyst, temperature of the exhaust flowing into each part, quantity of a reducing agent contained in the exhaust and heat capacity inside each part are taken into consideration with initial temperature of each part, and the initial temperature in each part on a downstream side including a rear end part of the exhaust emission control catalyst is set at the estimated catalyst temperature to be decided on the basis of temperature of the exhaust flowing out of the exhaust emission control catalyst when starting estimation of catalyst temperature, and the initial temperature of each part on the upstream side including a front end of the exhaust emission control catalyst is decided at a temperature of the predetermined position of the internal combustion engine lower than the estimated catalyst temperature when estimation of catalyst temperature was started. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI</p>
