PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gradation image forming device and a method for it, capable of forming various gradation images, while minimizing the use of the memory capacity. SOLUTION: Based on information, representing gradation change conditions in a gradation image registered in a gradation registration part 1, a difference table is generated in a difference table generation part 2. In a reference color table generating part 2, image data are inputted, and based on the image data, a reference color table is generated. Based on the generated difference table and reference color table and the inputted image data, gradation data are generated in a gradation data generating part 5.
