PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an authentication system, capable of preventing unauthorized use by performing authentication at a destination side terminal, and capable of suppressing the processing load on a server by minimizing inquiry for P2P server, and to provide an authentication method of an information terminal. SOLUTION: A two-way communication system 10 configures a system by connecting IP telephone adapters (16, 18) and a server to an IP network 12 and connecting telephones, respectively, to the IP telephone adapters (16, 18), and limits access from a source IP telephone adapter 18 to the server to only once. The IP telephone adapter (16, 18) is equipped with an authenticating section 30 for receiving source authentication information from the server and authentication information from the source IP telephone adapter 18, respectively performing authentication by determining agreement of received authentication information and performing communication, depending on the authentication results.
