PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a distance-measuring device capable of accurately selecting a measuring object properly and the measuring the distance. SOLUTION: This distance-measuring device 1 is equipped with a laser beam emitter 3, a reflected beam receiver 4, and a distance calculator 10 for determining the distance to the measuring object OB, based on an elapsed time from emission of measuring beam, until the reception of reflected beam. The device has operating buttons 5, 6 for switching a measuring mode to a first mode (long-distance mode) or a second mode (short-distance mode), and also has a distance selection part 16, wherein when the first mode is set by the operating buttons 5, 6 and a plurality of distances are extracted as the distance to the measuring object OB, the farthest distance from the distance measuring device 1 is selected; and when the second mode is set by the operating buttons 5, 6 and a plurality of distances are extracted as the distance to the measuring object OB, the nearest distance from the distance measuring device 1 is selected.
