PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing process of polybutylene terephthalate, which is improved to be manufactured constantly by stabilizing the inversion rate and also stabilizing the amount of foreign materials commingled in polybutylene terephthalate at the time of an esterification or transesterification reaction. SOLUTION: The manufacturing process of polybutylene terephthalate comprises the steps of continuously supplying terephthalic acid(or alkyl terephthalate) and 1,4-butane diol with an excess amount to the terephthalic acid to an esterification reaction tank (or transesterification reaction tank) in the presence of a metal compound and carrying out the esterification (or the transesterification reaction), wherein the mole ratio of terephthalic acid to 1,4-butane diol supplied into the esterification tank(or the transesterification reaction tank) for a unit time is controlled to be constant.
