<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rare earth magnet having a high electric resistance in which lowering of magnet characteristics is minimized, and to provide its production process. <P>SOLUTION: Surface of magnetic powder for rare earth magnet is coated partially, more preferably entirely, with an amorphous or/and crystalline rare earth oxide represented by general formula (I) and impurities contained in the rare earth oxide are oxidized and removed using a peroxide composed of one or a plurality of kinds of perhalogenide, halogenide, halogenite, hypohalogenite, nitrate, organic peroxide and peroxodisulfuric acid before a rare earth magnet is produced by compression molding. The general formula (I): R<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>(where R is terbium (Tb), dysprosium (Dy), holmium (Ho), erbium (Er), thorium (Tm), ytterbium (Yb) or lutetium (Lu)). <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
