<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rare earth magnet having a high electric resistance in which lowering of magnet characteristics is minimized, and to provide its production process. <P>SOLUTION: Surface of magnetic powder for rare earth magnet is coated partially, more preferably entirely, with an amorphous or/and crystalline rare earth oxide represented by general formula (I) and impurities contained in the rare earth oxide are oxidized and removed using a peroxide composed of one or a plurality of kinds of perhalogenide, halogenide, halogenite, hypohalogenite, nitrate, organic peroxide and peroxodisulfuric acid before a rare earth magnet is produced by compression molding.
