<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a user to protect user's privacy by limiting display of a predicted candidate for an input character string disadvantageous to him when inputting a character. <P>SOLUTION: A controller 1 monitors character input from a key input controller 5. A character controller 2 determines whether a predicted candidate for an input character exists by referring to an ordinary learning region 4a of a dictionary part 4 when the character is input. If it exists, the controller 1 transfers character data on the predicted candidate to a display controller 7 to make a display unit 8 display the predicted candidate (S13). If a privacy non-protection state is assumed in an ordinary made when the input character is defined, the controller 1 registers the defined character in the learning region 4a as a next predicted candidate.
