<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projector for preventing a drastic decrease of light use efficiency even when smooth, good quality moving image display is obtained. <P>SOLUTION: The projector includes a light source device 110, a first lens array 120, a second lens array 130, and superposed lens 150, a liquid crystal display device 400, and a projection optical system 600. In the projector, the superposed lens 150 includes an anamorphic optical system by which illumination luminous flux from the second lens array 130 is rectified to an illumination luminous flux that has such a cross-sectional shape that the entire image forming area is illuminated in one direction along the x-axis direction of the image forming area of the liquid crystal display device 400 whereas part of the image forming area is illuminated in the other direction along the y-axis direction of that. The superposed lens 150 is further provided with a scanning means 200 by which the illumination luminous flux rectified by the superposed lens 150 is scanned in the other direction on the image forming area in synchronous with frequency for writing on the image screen of the liquid crystal display device 400. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
