<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a brittle compact which effectively recycles ground chips, and to provide a briquette using it. <P>SOLUTION: The brittle compact Z is obtained by compression-molding a cotton-like aggregate C including the ground chips of a ferrous metal and a grinding fluid containing oil and water, into a predetermined shape. The brittle compact has a bulk density of 1.5 or higher, and a reinforced layer formed on a surface side, which has higher density and higher hardness than those in the inner side.
