PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data storage method and a data storage device for preventing identical data from being stored, and for storing data in a recording medium at a reproduction destination, and for storing the data in a recording medium at a reproduction origin for use. SOLUTION: This data storage device is provided with a management information analyzing part 1002 for analyzing management information data recorded in a recording medium, a reproduction deciding part 1003 for deciding whether or not designated data should be reproduced or stored, a file/directory constructing part 1005 for deciding file/directory at the time of reproducing the designated data, a management information constructing part 1006 for preparing management information data and a reproduction control part 1004 for reproducing designated data. The reproduction deciding part 1003 analyzes and compares the management information in the reproduction origin and the reproduction destination, and confirms whether or not the data are identical to the already reproduced data. Thus, it is possible to prevent the identical data from being stored in the storage medium at the reproduction destination, and to store the data in the recording medium at the reproduction destination, and to store the data in the recording medium at the reproduction origin for use.
