PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tape measure that can be protected from damages due to impact, by securing operability of an operation lever for the reason: the tape measure forming a cover covered on a case and a protection wall projected from an operation head part of the operation lever on a case face exists, in order to protect the operation lever from the impact of tape measure fall or the like, and the operability of the operation lever is lowered by the protection wall. SOLUTION: The tape measure winds a tape 11 on the periphery of a shaft 13 erected in the case 8, pivotally supports a rotating drum 10 which interior finishes a coil spring 12 urged in a direction of winding the tape 11, and is provided with a brake means for stopping or decelerating the tape 11 drawn into optional length. The brake means is provided with the operation lever 1 for performing brake operation, an operation head 2 projected for the operation lever 1 to an outward direction is provided, and an elastomer 3 is provided on at least the entire or a part of the operation head 2.
