PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a roofing material capable of not only maintaining most stable installation conditions after installed but also of being so easy to be installed as to much save the construction period. SOLUTION: This is a roofing material 1 of which the plural sheets cover the top surface of battens or existing roofing materials 36 laid over the battens constituting the roof of a building. It consists of a rectangular flat plate part 2 covering the top surface of battens or existing roofing materials 36 laid over the battens, one folded piece 3 formed by folding one of the lateral side ends of flat plate 2 until its bottom surface can face its top surface, and the other folded piece 9 formed by folding the other of the lateral side ends of flat plate 2 until its top surface can face its bottom surface, and engaging with the one folded piece 3 of an adjacent roofing material 1 by being inserted between its one folded piece 3 and flat plate 2. In both of one and other folded pieces 3 and 9, one and the other engagement parts 5 and 11 are formed to engage each other by being inserted sideways between the one folded pieces 3 and flat plate part 2.
