PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fabric softening and cleaning agent in which a clay mineral is used as a softening base material and fabrics or the like to be cleaned and simultaneously excellent softness is given to the cleaned fabrics, and provide a method for softening and cleaning textile products by using the fabric softening and cleaning composition and a method for enhancing the softening effect. SOLUTION: The fabric softening and cleaning composition comprises (a) a clay mineral, (b) a nonionic surfactant, (c) a compound that can liberate hydrogen peroxide in water, and (d) a compound that can generate organic peroxide by reacting with hydrogen peroxide wherein the component corresponding to the surfactant agent described in JIS K 3362: 1998 is 10 to 60% mass and more than 40% mass of the surfactant corresponding part is occupied with the component (b).
