PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a highly reliable liquid crystal composition which exhibits a reduced threshold voltage and a suppressed current value when composing a liquid crystal display element. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal composition contains components represented by formulas (I), (II) and (III) and is used in the liquid crystal display element. The liquid crystal composition is effective in reducing the threshold voltage and suppressing the current value when composing the liquid crystal display element. Therefore, when used as a constituent part of the liquid crystal display element, it realizes a high reliability and a low power consumption and is therefore useful for the liquid crystal display element such as TN (twisted nematic) and STN (super twisted nematic).
