PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a low-cost paper feeder capable of normally feeding a waved paper sheet. SOLUTION: The paper feeder comprises a paper feeding tray 19 for housing the paper sheet P, a pickup roller 22 for picking up the paper sheet P from the paper feeding tray 19 by contacting with a surface of the paper sheet P housed in the paper feeding tray 19 and rotating around a direction crossing a conveying direction A as a rotational axis, a feed roller 29 and retard roller 30 for selecting the paper sheet P picked up by the pickup roller 22, a feed-out sensor 28 for detecting the paper sheet fed from the feed roller 29, and a take-away roller 31 for conveying the paper sheet P conveyed by the feed roller 29 to the conveying direction A indicated by an arrow A. End parts of the pickup roller 22 in the rotational axial direction are provided with small diameter parts with their outer diameters formed to get smaller to the ends of the pickup roller 22.
