PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheet feeding device capable of accurately detecting a sheet overlapped state. SOLUTION: This sheet feeding device is provided with a stacker for stacking a document sheet, a delivery means for separating and feeding the document sheets from the stacker one by one, a sheet conveyance guide for guiding the document sheet to a treatment position, and a resist means for temporarily holding the document sheet fed from the separating means in the sheet conveyance guide. A sheet detection sensor for detecting existence or non-existence of the sheet is arranged on the upstream side of the resist means, and an overlapping detection sensor for detecting overlapping of the sheet is arranged on the downstream side. The delivery means and the resist means are driven and controlled so that the document sheet reaching the resist roller forms a loop shaped curve, and it is detected whether the sheet is overlapped or not based on a detection signal from the overlapping detection sensor and a detection signal from the sheet detection sensor.
