A bill dispenser comprising a hopper cassette (3c) provided with a bill containing section (15), a cassette shutter opening/closing mechanism (20) for openably/closing a bill discharge opening (15b) freely by means of a shutter plate and a bill retainer for urging a bill to the bill discharge opening side, and a bill dispenser body (2) provided with a bill feeding section (7c) at each cassette inserting section while having a cassette inserting section (6c) being set with the hopper cassette, a push rod acting on the cassette shutter opening/closing mechanism when the hopper cassette is set to open the cassette shutter thus opening the bill discharge opening, and a mechanism (22) for carrying the bill from the bill discharge opening to the carrying passage by moving to a position facing the bill discharge opening, a bill carrying passage (31) communicating with the bill carrying passage at the bill feeding section and carrying the bill, and a dispensing section (5) having a pocket (35) for receiving a bill carried on the bill carrying passage and a bill dispensing opening (5a) opening to the outside.
