<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical signal branching device that can reduce the Fresnel reflection of the optical fiber terminating part on the outputting side by a comparatively simple method, and also to provide a method of using the device. <P>SOLUTION: The optical signal branching device 1 is composed of: an inputting side optical fiber 2; an optical coupler 3 for branching an optical signal transmitted from the inputting side optical fiber 2; a plurality of outputting side optical fibers 4 for outputting an optical signal branched from the optical coupler 3; and optical signal attenuating optical fibers 6 connected to the end of the outputting side optical fibers 4 through connectors 5. The optical signal branching device 1 is used by connecting the optical signal attenuating optical fibers 6 to all of the outputting side optical fibers 4 in advance, by separating the optical signal attenuating optical fiber 6 from the outputting side optical fiber that is to transmit an optical signal, and then by connecting an optical fiber 7 for transmission to the outputting side optical fiber from which the optical signal attenuating optical fiber 6 is separated. As a result, the Fresnel reflected light from the outputting side optical fibers that transmit no optical signals is absorbed by the optical signal attenuating optical fibers, so that the reflected light is prevented from going backward on the transmission line and adversely affecting the transmission characteristic. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
