PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new lactone polymer which has low crystallinity, is liquid at the ordinary temperature or has a low melting point, has improved workability, when used, and can give polyurethanes having excellent weather resistance, heat resistance and chemical resistance, and to provide a method for producing the same. SOLUTION: A tricyclodecane dimethanol-modified lactone polymer represented by general formula (I) [Z<SB>1</SB>and Z<SB>2</SB>are each identical or different; nR<SP>1</SP>groups and nR<SP>2</SP>groups in Z<SB>1</SB>and Z<SB>2</SB>are each independently H, CH<SB>3</SB>or C<SB>2</SB>H<SB>5</SB>; (x) is an integer of 3 to 7 determined by the kind of the used lactone compound; (m) and (n) are each an integer of 0 to 100; (m) + (n) is an integer of 1 to 100], and the method for producing the same.
