摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading apparatus for reducing the possibility of occurrence of a positional deviation in and adhesion of dust to a reflective reference plate for setting initial conditions of a reading optical system. SOLUTION: A light source 31 for irradiating light on a specimen on a stage 10, a photoelectric conversion element for carrying out photoelectric conversion, an optical means for guiding the light, a carriage 35, and the reading reference plate 110 are respectively fitted to an apparatus frame 70, and the reading reference plate 110 is located in parallel with the stage 10 in a moving direction of a scanning unit A. An opening 12c for placing the specimen onto the stage 10 is formed on the apparatus frame 70, and a reading reference surface 110b of the reading reference plate 110 is positioned in the opening 12c of the apparatus frame 70 in a way that the reading reference surface 110b is located higher than a stage surface 12 and lower than the scanning unit A. Provision of a dustproof barrier (bracket) between the stage 10 and the reading reference plate 110 can more surely prevent the reading reference plate 110 from becoming dirty.
