A coated paper adapted to newsprint printing ink that in the printing with the use of an osmotic drying type ink, exhibits rapid ink dryability comparable to those of conventional newsprints, being free from stickiness and that further realizes excellent reproducibility, clarity, etc. of printed image comparable to those of coated papers; and a process for producing the coated paper adapted to newsprint printing ink. There is provided a coated paper adapted to newsprint printing ink, comprising a newsprint composed of a base paper and, superimposed thereon, a coating layer containing a pigment and an adhesive, the coating layer superimposed on the base paper in an amount of 4.0 g/m<2> or more per side, characterized in that the coated paper exhibits an under-pressure oil absorption of 20% or more and a Bekk smoothness of 75 sec or less.
