<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make a plenty of circulating gas flow into a gas intake passage while preventing damages of the gas intake passage, etc. due to heat of the circulating gas and restraining contamination of the inside of the gas intake passage due to the circulating gas. <P>SOLUTION: This exhaust gas circulating device of an engine 1 is furnished with a first circulating passage 31 to circulate exhaust gas from a catalyst upstream part 12a on the upstream side of a catalyst unit 14 in an exhaust gas passage 12, a second circulating passage 32 to circulate the exhaust gas from a catalyst downstream part 12b on the downstream side of the catalyst unit 14 in the exhaust gas passage 12, a two-way change-over valve 42 to change a first state to cause circulation by the first circulating passage 31 and a second state to cause circulation by the second circulating passage 32 over to each other and a control unit 50.
