<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To project and display a color image of a satisfactory image quality in which differences in brightness and sharpness among red, green, and blue monochrome images are small. <P>SOLUTION: A projection type display device comprises: a display element 2 which has a display area with a plurality of pixels having no light coloring means arranged in rows and lines in the form of a matrix, and in which pieces of monochrome image data for the three colors, red, green, and blue are successively written in the plurality of pixels and the emission of incident light is controlled to successively display images corresponding to the monochrome image data for the red, green, and blue; a light source system 3 which allows light to enter the display element 2; a projection system 13 by which the light emitted from the display element 2 is projected with a projection lens 14, thereby forming an image onto a projection screen; and a color wheel 18 that includes a rotating plate on which color filters for the three colors, red, green, and blue are circumferentially disposed, that is disposed such that its outer circumference is interposed in the optical path of the projection system 13, and that is rotated with speed matching the successive writing of the pieces of monochrome image data for the red, green, and blue into the display element 2. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
