PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a processing method whereby diamond can be easily and inexpensively processed into a desired shape with high precision through an electrochemical method. SOLUTION: Precision processing of the diamond is performed by placing the diamond 1 to be processed which serves as an anode and a cathode 3 inside an electrolytic cell 5 containing an electrolyte solution 6 containing an organic compound, applying voltage by an electric conduction system 4 to generate a potential difference between the anode 1 and the cathode 3 and utilizing electrochemical reaction at the anode. The diamond can be processed into the desired shape by solid solubilizing impurities such as boron, nitrogen, phosphorus and sulfur in the diamond to impart conductivity to the diamond, covering a non-processed part with a masking material such as PTFE and subjecting the diamond to electrolysis.
