PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control device for accurately discriminating the fluctuation factor of clamping force of a continuously variable transmission when controlling the clamping force. SOLUTION: The control device for the continuously variable transmission lowers the clamping force when preset operating conditions are established. It comprises a clamping force fluctuation detecting means (Step S104) for detecting the fluctuating condition of the clamping force when feedback controlled, a control content changing means (Step S106) for changing control contents of feedback control in accordance with a detection result of the clamping force fluctuation detecting means, and a determining means (Step S109) for determining the fluctuation factor of hydraulic pressure in accordance with the fluctuating condition of the clamping force in the state of changing the contents of the feedback control. A clamping force increasing means (Step S106) is also provided for increasing the clamping force when the fluctuating condition of the clamping force exceeds a preset condition.
