PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To maintain the quality of stored ink over a long period of time, even if an ink cartridge with a port communicating with the atmosphere, which is formed in such a manner that a total opening area is larger than a proper opening area, is used so as to provide commonality of a component or replenish the ink. SOLUTION: One ink chamber 6, which is composed of a lid member 11 and a case 5, is formed in the ink cartridge 20. The lid member 11, which is used as a common component for a plurality of types of ink cartridges, is equipped with the three ports 4a communicating with the atmosphere. The total opening area of the three ports 4a is set larger than an area most suitable for the ink cartridge 20. The carriage 30 has a lower frame 31 and an upper frame 32. When the lower frame 31 is equipped with the ink cartridge 20 and the ink cartridge 20 is locked by the upper frame 32, two of the three ports 4a are closed with a plug member 37, and consequently, only one port 4a is opened.
