PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate the problems wherein fuel is run out and an engine becomes impossible to re-start or a fuel injection system is failed, in regard to construction machinery. SOLUTION: An engine control device 6 for controlling a fuel system high-pressure pump 3 and an injector 5 of a common rail type diesel engine 1 is provided with a control function for stopping the engine in response to residual quantity of fuel. The engine control device monitors output of a residual quantity sensor 12 provided inside a fuel tank 2, and in the case wherein a certain value or less is output, stops the diesel engine. With this structure, a situation that the engine is operated till fuel is run out is prevented, and troubles that the fuel system is contaminated with air by run-out of fuel to make start impossible or to break down an injection system can be prevented.
