PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an adhesive applying apparatus for applying the adhesive on a metallic plate or the like, particularly useful for applying a solid adhesive and having simple structure. SOLUTION: An adhesive application roller 5 is provided horizontally and an adhesive vessel 14 faces the adhesive application roller 5. A lifting roller 2 which moves vertically is provided directly under the adhesive application roller 5. The metallic plate or the like is placed on the lifting roller 2 and is brought into close contact with the adhesive application roller 5 by moving the lifting roller 2 upward. When the adhesive application roller 5 is rotated, the adhesive in the adhesive vessel 14 is stuck on the adhesive application roller 5 to be transferred onto the metallic plate or the like. When the metallic plate or the like is transported by a prescribed length, the lifting roller 2 is moved downward to separate the metallic plate or the like from the adhesive application roller 5. The adhesive is not stuck on the metallic plate or the like during the separation of the adhesive application roller 5. Next, the lifting roller 2 is moved upward to apply the adhesive again.
