PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a speed change operation device for quickly moving a shift lever into a neutral region. SOLUTION: The speed change operation device 2 comprises a first solenoid 7 for moving the shift lever 35 to a preset shifting direction, a second solenoid 8 for moving the shift lever 35 to the opposite direction, and a control device 10 for controlling both solenoids 7, 8. When the shift lever 35 is moved from a preset gear stage into the neutral region, the control device 10 first operates one of the first and second solenoids 7, 8, and when the shift lever 35 is located in the neutral region, then it stores a control value for one of the first and second solenoids 7, 8 at the time, keeps the control value for one of the first and second solenoids 7, 8 at the stored value and operates the other of the first and second solenoids 7, 8 at a control value smaller than the stored value.
