PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical fiber containing a flame retardant UV curable tight-buffer coating and to provide a buffer composition. SOLUTION: In an optical fiber containing a flame retardant UV-curable tight-buffer coating applied on the fiber, the tight-buffer coating is substantially halogen-free and has at least about 22% limiting oxygen index. When the fiber is coated with the above coating at a line speed of at least 300 m/minute, the tight-buffer coating is removable from the fiber with stripping force of less than about 1,800 g.
