PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polymer electrolyte for an electric double layer capacitor having a high degree of freedom in design in addition to high safety, and to provide an electric double layer capacitor employing that polymer electrolyte. SOLUTION: The polymer electrolyte for an electric double layer capacitor is produced by heating an electrolytic composition comprising a phosphagen compound, tetraalkylthiuram disulfides and a supporting electrolyte at 60°C or above. The electric double layer capacitor comprises the polymer electrolyte, a positive electrode, and a negative electrode. Since the phosphagen compound in the electrolytic composition is thermally polymerized, possibility of liquid leakage is eliminated in the polymer electrolyte. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
