PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shield machine which can smoothly carry out excavation of the ground even if the ground exhibits a 3-D excavating surface. SOLUTION: The shield machine has an outer shell 2 which has a cutter 3 at a front portion thereof in tunnel excavating directions (directions of arrows A and B) in a rotatably driving manner. The cutter 3 has a center cutter 12 arranged thereon in a manner rotatable together with rotation of the cutter so as to drive and project in the tunnel excavating directions, and also has cutter units 11 arranged thereon in a manner rotatable together with the rotation of the cutter so as to drive and move in radial directions (directions of arrows C and D) with reference to a center point CT in a plane at right angles to the excavating directions of the outer shell. Further each cutter unit 11 has an excavation unit 11b arranged in a manner driving and projecting in the excavating directions, and also has an excavating blade 11c rotatably arranged therein.
