PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a low-cost address setting method of an air conditioner for accurately and automatically setting an address of an indoor unit while requiring no special facility in a manufacturing stage and no simultaneous transmission and reception function of the indoor unit. SOLUTION: Indoor units 21-24, which receive a temporary address setting command from an outdoor unit 10, have a temporary address setting function for creating an initial value for generating a random number from information of an indoor temperature or the like, conducting a random number calculation by using the created initial value, and determining a temporary address by using a calculated value obtained from a result of the random number calculation. Thereby, the outdoor unit 10 uses the temporary address to distinguish the respective indoor units when the respective indoor units 21-24 responds by a temporary address confirmation command, through which the address is sequentially given. Thus, it is not necessary to store information inherent to the respective indoor units such as a serial number or the like in an EEPROM or the like in the manufacturing stage, and low-cost automatic address setting requiring no simultaneous transmission and reception function, and excellent in manufacturing cost, can be conducted on the indoor unit.
