The method involves using an expansion device (2) connected to an evaporator (6) whereby expansion is undertaken in a low pressure expansion device so that the energy contained in the expanded vaporised working medium can be recovered in the evaporator which can be used to vaporise additional working medium. A first component of the working medium formed by a mixture is absorbed in and/or after the low pressure expansion device by an absorption medium whereby heat changes to the remaining second vapour component which can be recovered. Independent claim describes apparatus for converting thermal energy to mechanical energy having an evaporator and a low pressure expansion device and absorption device.
