PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a problem wherein a detector starts to be deteriorated when used too excessively, in the detector for detecting an end part of an opaque recording sheet using an exposure laser and direct illumination light. SOLUTION: This image forming device is provided with a recording medium support body 5 laid with a recording medium 6 thereon in use. A radiation beam generator 1 generates a radiation beam modulated with an image forming data and guided toward the support body. A system is provided to conduct relative scanning movement between the beam and the support body. A detection system 10 detects a radiation emitted from the support body 5 or the recording medium 6 in response to an incident radiation from the radiation beam generator 1 and having a wavelength different from the incident radiation, so as to observe a change in intensity of the detected radiation for indicating the passage of the end part of the recording medium.
