PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a semiconductor light-receiving element, wherein the detecting efficiency of the light traveling in the direction of the surface of its light absorbing layer can be improved. SOLUTION: The semiconductor light-receiving element 100a has a mesa portion 102a, having a light absorbing layer 104 in the upper portion of a substrate 101a. Above the substrate 101a, a light-transmitting member 107a is so positioned as to oppose its one end-face e2 to a side surface e3 of the light-absorbing layer 104. Further, its other end-face e1, disposed opposite to its one end-face e2, is so configured as to become a light incident surface. Hereupon, the thickness d1 of the other end-face e1 of the light-transmitting member 107a is set larger than the thickness d2 of the light-absorbing layer 104. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
