METHOD FOR ASSAYING ABILITY TO SUPPRESS SECRETION OF CHOLESTEROL ESTER

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a simple method for assaying ability to suppress secretion of a cholesterol ester, useful for searching a substance having ability to suppress secretion of the cholesterol ester. SOLUTION: The method for assaying the ability to suppress the secretion of cholesterol ester in a cell comprises using lowering of expression or activity of phosphatidylethanolamine-N-methyltransferase as an index. The assaying method comprises (1) a first step for measuring the activity of the phosphatidylethanolamine-N-methyltransferase in a contact system of the phosphatidylethanolamine-N-methyltransferase with a testing substance and (2) a second step for evaluating the ability of the phosphatidylethanolamine-N-methyltransferase to suppress cholesterol ester secretion by using the ability to suppress the activity of the phosphatidylethanolamine-N-methyltransferase as an index based on the difference obtained by comparing activity measured by the first step with activity in a control.
