The invention relates to novel alkoxylactones, alkoxylactames and alkoxythiolactames of formula (I), to methods for controlling processes based on microbial interaction using said alkoxylactones, alkoxylactames and alkoxythiolactames, to uses of said alkoxylactones, alkoxylactames and alkoxythiolactames, and to agents containing said alkoxylactones, alkoxylactames and alkoxythiolactames.
