<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a computer to execute a process for selecting appropriate commands from a variety of commands and providing them to a device. <P>SOLUTION: A PC 1 to be managed acquires the 1284ID of a printer 3 from the printer 3 to identify the kind of the printer 3. From a table containing a plurality of records each storing a PJL command, one record is selected (S331) and whether or not the PJL command associated with the kind identified is stored is determined (S335-S337); if it is stored (S337:YES), the commands and data for configuring the PJL commands are read from the record (S339) and a character sequence to be sent that forms the PJL commands is created (S341).
