PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a multi-layered cylindrical body excellent in heat insulation performance and thermal deformation resistance and suitable as a plunger sleeve or so on for a die-casting machine. SOLUTION: The multi-layered cylindrical body comprises an outer metal cylinder 1 and an inner cylinder 2 fitted into the outer metal cylinder 1. The inner cylinder 2 comprises a plurality of divided cylindrical bodies 2n formed by a hot plastic working process (hot isostatic pressing or the like) which compresses, in the direction of wall thickness, capsular assemblies comprising metal cylinders piled concentrically with layers of fibrous or powdered ceramics interposed between the metal cylinders. In each divided cylindrical body, the innermost metal cylinder (first metal cylinder) 31 and the outer metal cylinders 32 and 33 outside the first metal cylinder 31 are connected at the end faces, and adjoining end faces are made to butt against each other and placed and fixed by shrinkage fitting in the outer metal cylinder. The first metal cylinder 31 and the metal cylinders outside the first metal cylinder 31 are connected by welding or with suitable annular members. Preferably, the wall thickness of the first metal cylinder 31 is approx. 3-15 mm and the thickness of the ceramic layer is 1 mm or less. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
