A sling comprises suspension chains or cables 25 and lifting chains or cables 10 which are pivotally attached to the ends of a telescopic spreader bar 13, 14 so that a compressive load only is applied thereto. The length of the spreader bar is adjusted by a pin 18 which passes through holes 15, the fine adjustment comprising a nut 19 which moves the pin along a slot 17 in the outer member 14. The pin 18 has a gravity-operated pivoted latch which prevents inadvertent withdrawal. |
